So I removed the old exhaust tip from my 855 (rusted through...ugh) and replaced it with a $8 pencil rolled extension tip. It looks better, but it's too small.. It just doesn't fit in the bumper cutout. I tried attaching this larger (but shorter) tip to the extension, but the extension has too large of a diameter. The only larger tips that will fit are resonators. Will these make my car sound like rice? Or are they mostly stuff? Thanks.

Resonators are called resonators because they do just that: sound like shaz. You may have seen an otherwise stock exhaust setup that sounds like a swarm of mild-tempered bees coming towards you, behold the 1-1/2" fury!

Try something like Magnaflow, it's a full muffler and ask around here for how they sound: lots of folks are running these!

I agree, you can get a resonated tip for proably $15-40 or you could just go get the magnaflow muffler for maybe $75 and actually have your engine produced that sound not just some additional holes drilled into a muffler tip.

When I get a volvo and the rolled edge on the stock square tubing is rusted I take it off the exhaust and mod it. I start with at straight edge of masking tape right to the initial portion of rust and run this "straight edge" all the way around the tip. Cut with a dremel or other form of cutting wheel and then clean off all surface rust with a da or hand sand. Then prep and paint the tip a semi-flat black and replace just a hair back so the tip is flush with the rear clip. The straight out look looks meaner than the rolled edge in my opinion. But if sound is what you are going for, cut the suitcase out and replace with a magna or comparable brand muffler. m2c.

Eh, there are so many things I'd rather buy than a new muffler. I was just wondering if resonator tips sound like crap, and, since they do, guess I'm gonna have to figure something else out. Thanks guys.
