Worn Upper Motor Mount

i have the ipd polyurethane motor mount, and have recently observed that the black metal holder that holds the motor mount in place has cut into the polyurethane bushing. there is considerable play in my engine. i am also observing a jiggly noise over bumps. my suspension is healthy, so i am wondering if this is the source of my noise. anyone have any experience with worn out upper motor mounts?

pics ? how many miles on the ipd mount?

yeah, I'd like to see exactly what you're talking about. Are you sure the IPD mount was installed correctly? I know people have had much success w/ them...

i have about 35,000 miles on the ipd poly mount i'd imagine.

hmm, unless the poly mount was severely cracked, I can't see how it would cause that much play in your motor.

how do i remove the mount?

the IPD mount?

take off that long bolt that goes through the mount, take that off, then rotate the mount itself, so that you can pry the arm that holds it off of the mount on the engine, then just take the mount out. there are two pieces of it, they'll come out on either side, and there is a metal rod that connects them, use some wd40 and the whole thing should just pop right out.

check the smaller bushing at the rear of the torque mount

i belive he is talking about the bushing at the opposite end of the arm from the IPD unit, near where it mounts to the firewall.

yes that is what i speak of smile.gif

put your hand on the top of the mount and follow it back to the firewall, there is another bushing there
