1998 S70 T5 DTC P0440 and PO172
I get these 2 codes: P0172 2-3-1 Long-term fuel trim, part load and P0440 3-1-5 Evaporative emission system (EVAP) Minimum. Someone please tell me they are related and that the Canister Purge Valve is the likely problem. The Evap canister on my car is under the car near the right rear wheel and is a square box unlike the round canisters I read about on this forum. There looks to be another valve (or solenoid) attached to the canister in addition to the purge valve up near the radiator. With the ignition off I can pressure test the system from the purge valve back and will get air flowing from a 5/8” hose up near the fuel filler tube. Does this second valve on the canister need to be energized before I can really pressure test the system for leaks?

They probably are related I would replace the C/P valve clear codes and go for a ride.

I've got the exact same problem. When I applied a little air pressure to the line at the radiator it would blow out of the air filter that is mounted beside the fuel filler tube. So I concluded that the valve that is mounted above the vapor canister was open. Question is, is it supposed to be? It looks to me like it should not be. How can it be a sealed fuel vapor system if it is open to the atmosphere.?
