Wanna do mine next? I can drop it off any time. :P

That really looks great, I can't believe how far this has come since you first bought it.

I'm always down for company while working on the cars.. If you are ever over this way, swing by. Paint will take a bit more planning though as I actually borrowed a buddy's shop, and some of his time..

Thanks!

Just worth noting something I'm keeping a close eye on lately. There is a very slight coolant loss going on.. This car gets driven about an hour a day and after a week, the coolant might be 1/4" lower in the reservoir than before. I'll top it off and it will be about the same a week later. It's very slow, but I don't want it to turn into a catastrophic failure. I looked it over pretty thoroughly last night and everything that I can see is perfectly dry including the heater core and hoses. This is a little disconcerting considering that I replaced basically everything related to the cooling system except for the head gasket.. Coolant and oil are both clean for now so I guess we will just keep driving it until whatever is going on becomes obvious.

Have you checked the little plastic nipple on the overflow tank?

It's mostly covered by a hose that comes off the top of the tank to the radiator (I think)

My 850 was losing coolant and everything else checked out but coolant was slowly leaking/spraying from a hairline crack in on this section of the overflow tank...

I have looked around that tank some, but I don't see anything. I've had coolant come out of the old tank and it left white spots all around it. This is a new OEM tank and cap as of last fall and I see no signs of leakage there. That's what is scaring me, I replaced virtually every coolant related part with OEM or better less than a year ago.

My coolant scare seems to have been a fluke. Maybe just a bubble somewhere in the system finally came out. I have no idea, but it hasn't lost a drop in the last couple weeks. I'm going to call it good.

Moving on to another project.. Not proud of it, but I have not properly detailed this car since we brought it home. The paint is basically garbage, many of the body parts have been repainted at some point, and not at the same time. We'll call it a good 20 footer.  I had a little extra time between projects so I figured I would give it a good once-over and see how good I could make it. I still need to give it a good waxing tonight, but I'm finished with everything up to that stage so far.

Started with Meguiars Gold Class wash, chamois dry, then Meguiars Ultimate Compound via orbital buffer and by hand in spots. Tonight I am going to give it a quick rinse off to remove any remaining compound, then Meguiars Gold Class wax. It will need a full repaint sometime in the future as there are excessive rock chips, scratches, dings, etc. But for now, It's good enough for the daily/winter car that it is.

Drove the R a lot this past week and weekend, and the coolant level has dropped a little bit again. I am checking this in the mornings after the car has been parked all night. And I always check it while parked in the same place in the garage. I'm trying to rule out any anomaly that might be due to temp or the level that the car is parked at.

I can't see any visible signs of a coolant leak. Literally every serviceable part of the coolant system has been replaced in the past year. I suppose maybe I'll try some of that dye that gets added to the coolant and shows up under a black light.. Not really sure where to go from here.

Am I correct that if a cooler in the transmission is leaking, it would make the coolant dirty (this happened on the C70), this is not happening here.

If the head gasket was seeping, there would be other symptoms right?

Checked it again, cold, parked in the same spot, and the level was right back up where it should be.. Maybe I'm just overthinking it all. Idk.

On a different note, FCP has their silicone intercooler hose set on clearance so I ordered 2 sets. One for each car.

Washed this thing last night in preparation for a little 500 mile mi road trip vacation this weekend. Hoping to pick up a set of winter wheels/tires along the way.

Eh.. It'll get washed after too. We are going to see friends and I can't stand showing up in a dirty car. The weather is supposed to be nice all weekend, so it might actually be clean when we arrive. Usually it rains after I wash anything.

500 mile road trim was successful. The only mechanical issue was a CEL for a small evap leak. Tightened the gas cap and cleared and it hasn't come back on yet. I'll replace it soon though just to be safe.

I while on the road, I picked up a set of good condition (read: not bent) 16" Andrasteas with good Cooper all season tires. The meteors that were on the car were not round anymore and the car shook pretty bad at highway speeds. Plus a couple of the tires had bulges, and I kept loosing air pressure around the beads. It wasn't pretty. So while these aren't exactly desirable, they should make great winter wheels. They are solid, shouldn't bend easily, and the small holes should keep snow and ice out of the brakes. I'm going to run the coopers until the end of the summer, then I'll pick up a set of proper snow tires for these wheels, and probably paint them gunmetal or something.  I'll be searching for something tasteful in 17" come next spring.. Maybe Pegs, Comets, something else? Idk. Honestly, I would love to take the comets from the C70 and put them on the wagon, then pick up some 18" Odysseus for the coupe.. We'll see.

Picture right after installing. Don't mind my brother being... Well... Yeah...

I can't describe how nice it feels to have round wheels that don't shake anymore!

Edit: Better picture from this morning:

I'm selling a set of BBS LM style wheels, 18x8 et40 and would look SEXY on that coupe as they do on mine. I'm just going in a different direction.

Depending on where you are in Indy, I may be able to deliver or meet you some weekend when I'm driving out to the lady friend in Chicago.

Also, nice progress on the VR! I've been following your thread but haven't posted just yet, but so glad to see you brought this thing back from the (almost) too far gone.

Thanks Timbo! I do like those wheels, but I've got something in mind already. Appreciate the offer though. I'm about 30 min south of South Bend. PM me next time you come through the area,
