Tuner4life's 1998 Saffron V70R

On Saturday, we took the Saffrons to the last local Cars and Coffee meet of the season. It was kind of gloomy, but we got some decent rolling shots courtesy of my brother.

You know, I've always though those wheels just looked kinda whatever on P2s, but they look good on your Saffy . I think they work with the lines of a P80.

Thanks. I like them for winter wheels.. Going to pick up something better for next summer if all goes well.

On Sunday, Me, the wife, the 1.5 year old, and 2 doggos loaded the VR up and went hiking at Potato Creek State Park near South Bend. The weather was actually decent and we had a good time. Also took advantage of the fall colors. Saffrons look so good in the fall!

I've had these roofrack crossbars for a while now and finally got around to installing them (mostly to make space in the shop for other messes). I am a little sad to find out that whoever used these before me had over-tightened the clamp bolts and actually fractured the lower clamps slightly 3 out of 4 of them. Right now I am a little reluctant to actually strap any sort of load to these because they aren't clamping tight like they should be, but as of late last night, they are at least on the car..

I LOVED that roof rack set up on my 98v70t5m. Super sturdy, made no noise and barely affecting mpg's. man I miss that car.

In an attempt to "winterize" this car.. I didn't want to risk the R bumper getting damaged by ice, so I swapped it with this somewhat rough C70 bumper that was left over from the parts car. It's kind of ugly on the wagon, but I'm thinking about fabbing up some sort of light bar for it and maybe a big aluminum skid plate. Not sure if I will get all of that done before the snow falls though..

It has been in the 60s the last couple of days, so I swapped the correct bumper back onto the car. I'm glad I took the R bumper off during winter because I'm sure it would have gotten destroyed. (Yes, I know I still need a center grille)

This is the summer where I plan to refresh the whole rear subframe including all joints, bushings, Nivos, driveshaft etc. Might even find a low mileage diff or possibly rebuild mine. At the very least it'll get resealed. Also going to be doing the fuel pump and sending unit, and possibly adding access doors to be able to access them in the future if needed. Lastly, if all goes well, I'll also be doing the IPD sway bars front and back, lowering springs in the front, drop bolts in the rear, and some nicer wheels of some sort..  Maybe a Stereo System.. Idk.. All of the stuff that I've been neglecting. Wish me luck.

Here's a good guide to upgrading/replacing the bushings in your rear subframe: http://v70r.com/forums/topic/37473-p80-awd-rear-suspension-bushings/

Had that thread bookmarked for a while now and have read through it several times! I think I have my head wrapped around what parts are needed (most of them at least). I do wish the pictures still worked though. I'll do a thorough write-up with lots of pictures when I get around to doing mine.

Good that you're gonna take lots of pictures, they're always helpful in documenting all the work that goes into these projects. That being said, I think it'll be fairly simple once you get to look at everything.

As far as I can see, except for some of the photos in Will's first post, all the pictures still work for me.  That being said, I think the pictures on page 2 do a pretty good job of showing how everything comes together.

The other day I finally got around to installing my new Pro-Parts splash shield. This is the one that goes behind the bumper under the radiator and whatnot. I couldn't justify paying for an OEM one and while the Pro-Parts piece seems to be just as sturdy as the original, I decided to "parking-stop-proof" it anyways. This is simple, costs less than $10 and has been successful for me on several other P80s.

Just need some wire strapping (The locals here call it plumbers tape) and a handful of hardware. Pictures do the explaining.
