Here's the problem on my
2001 V70 T5 in our New England winter
1) the automatic climate control works(delivers heat) for about 20 minutes each day
2) Then it blows only cold unless the temp controls are put at full heat. then it does deliver max heating. It used to work just fine.
So far I have -
1) replaced the cabin temp sensor in the dash
2) replaced the cabin filter
3) disconnected the battery for 30 mins to see if it would reset the computer
no luck
went to the volvo dealer, they
1) pulled code 303, blower motor (the fan does work as normal. The filter was clogged with pine needles which might have caused the code, I think)
2) no thermostat codes or any others
3) said "live with it" because they would have to charge $800 for a new climate control unit and didn't think the blower motor was the problem. They also couldn't guarantee that the new ECC would work
They also said that you can't just change the climate control yourself with junkyard parts because the computer is VIN specific. It would need software
So, I need help. Its cold (or very hot)
1) Any ideas what else to look for?
2) Can I swap ECC units - is the dealer wrong? Sources?
3) Is the blower motor behind the glovebox - I might try that just to see
4) Is there a common flap/clip/rod failure on the 2001 cars? I see that for 850s in the archive, but nothing about newer v70's . Iv'e run into that before on other cars.
Thanks in advance
Dave

I'm almost positive that if you changed your ECC you would need a download. I agree with them that the blower motor is not the cause. But I also thought that if you replaced the temp sensor that it would need a download as well? Not positive on that though. Bay 13 will have to answer that ...as an indy we can no longer access climate control 99 and on ..unless you want to spend 7grand a year and I do not. So I ship mine to the dealer. Perhaps in the future Volvo will make their system accessable and affordable to the independants?

If your fan is still working then that is more than likely not your problem. You do need SW when you put a new unit in. I'd also try a damper motor calibration, you need the VADIS/VIDA computer to do that.
