I just took out the flame trap. Aren't I glad I'm replacing it! Thanks to all the warnings on this board. smile.gif However, it looks like there are two pipes connecting to the flame trap holder. One is disconnected: flame trap holder and pipes. Maybe I disconnected it unknowingly while trying to pull the flame trap out. I just want to confirm that I should reconnect it. unsure.gif

Secondly, is carb cleaner safe on those plastic/rubber pipes/holders? They look dirty to me.

Finally, I plan to clean the throttle body, too. Do I have to take the throttle body out and clean it? Should I spray some carb cleaner in the intake manifold to clean it, too, if I take the throttle body out?

Thanks, y'all.

The big rubber elbow on the flame trap housing goes on the large plactic pipe thats in the picture, and the small goes on the small plastic line that should be wrapped with the larger, but I don't see it in the pic.

Carb cleaner is fine to use on the parts that look like they need cleaning.

Don't spray stuff into the intake manifold. You can clean it with it still on the intake, just open the plate and use a rag soaked with carb cleaner.

How do I open the throttle body plate? unsure.gif

Btw, the small rubber pipe is still connected to the small plastic line. smile.gif

putting the small one on can be a pain, good that it's on still.

To open the plate, just grab the pulley that the wire for the gas pedal connects to and twist it and it will open.(you have the black cover off right?)

If you feel comfortable taking the TB off I would say go ahead and do it. Also have a TB gasket on hand because more than likely the old one is going to be disgusting and have to be scraped off. If you decide to take the TB off be sure to take the sensor (throttle position sensor TPS) off the tb before you start dousing it with carb cleaner

Man, I'm frustrated now. The big rubber elbow of the flame trap housing always breaks off from the big plastic pipe after I twist the housing onto the hose. mad.gif It looks like I must remove the spark plug rotor to try to connect the big plastic pipe after the housing is twisted onto the pipe. How do you guys do it? unsure.gif

Finally, I've got it all together. I was being lazy before and didn't take the hose apart. tongue.gif Here are the steps I took:
1. Take the hose apart: the lower part of the hose (the one connecting to throttle body) and the upper part (the one to the air box).
2. Twist flame trap housing onto the lower part of the hose.
3. Connect the lower part of the hose to throttle body. 99% of chance that the big plastic pipe will be forced off the housing here.
4. Connect the big plastic pipe to the housing.
5. Connect the upper part of the hose.

That's all. Hope to see some performance improvement tomorrow since I've changed spark plugs, too. cool.gif
