(YES, I know these can't be used with stock housings. I've got my own reasons for wanting them. I tried the VPtuning.com folks, no luck :'-( )

Definitely not the case. It would make it 1000x worse for oncoming traffic or anyone else really. The lens directs light towards the right parts of the road, keeping as much glare as possible away from oncoming traffic. HIDs create glare in halogen housings with the lens, imagine the glare w/o a lens. This is only good for projector retrofits, I can't think of any other reasons for this really.

Oooooooooh. Ok, I understand now what projectors do. Even though they are annoying. The projector lense itself its acting like the glass that would cover a regular halogen lamp correct?

Similar to it, but are far more efficient (ie, they put more usable light infront of you). I never think of them as being annoying, they actually keep light from going above where they should.

Ever drive in front of an Audi with projectors in pitch black? My friend has an A4 with them and they're so bright that I usually turn my side view mirrors away from them.

You all are in a world of hurt guys. The manufacturers of the jewel headlights dont sell just the "lenses" I had to order them form gerorge at vptuning (they were off of a warrentied pair ) It really sucks because one of my lenses got a rock chip in it.

So you had to buy a whole headlight to fix one of your cracked jewels? Wow, that's lame! Who makes them?

A million times a day... Mercs, Audis, BMWs, every european car under the sun. Doesn't bother me that much, 5% tint helps a lot

Ditto...5% tint is great! if I flip my rear view mirror, it's just blackness, except for the headlights...I really can't see any resemblance of a car outline...Of course I do have to roll down my windows if I want to use my side view mirrors when backing up

Really? How much was the lens? I am interested in getting them for a projector retrofit.

or better or more modern headlights into an 850. Is it possible to purchase clear
lenses
Thank you, regards
Helmut Ranff
Without changing the internal reflector to something that directs light (or a projector), a clear lens won't work. You can however get new jewel headlights.

E-codes on 850's and HIDs work though? I heard that they have a better cut off then the stock lenses... Also, wouldn't eyebrows help with that too?
