where and what is the steering knuckle???

That is really old terminology for a bit that is not used in strut-type suspensions. If someone has used that term to describe a piece in a Volvo front suspension, they were probably referring to either the ball joint where the strut attaches to the front A-arm or the rod end between the steering link and the steering arm on the strut.
