1998 V70R, Resto Mod Thread

Recommended Posts

I am active on SwedeSpeed, but I heard this forum is more receptive of modifying cars. Build Thread

I bought the car about 5 years ago with 110k miles on it. My ex took the car and daily-ed it for about 2 years and I bought it back recently.

Car was neglected and riven hard in those 2 years, so I have been tearing down much of the car for R&R.

Quick catch up then current work being done:

  • Completed
    • Shaved and painted bumpers
    • Modified CX Racing Coilovers (for an S70)
      • Drop bolts, Swift Springs for the rear, custom bottom T-Bar mount
    • Full Maintenance (PCV, Timing Belt, Plugs/ Wires, etc)
      • Colorado Driveshaft
      • Rebuilt ABS Module
    • 18" BBS Wheels from a Jaguar - completely restored (running custom adapters)

V70r_Front.JPG

Just fitted a period correct Momo Cobra steering wheel. Imported from Russia with love. Used an OMP adapter for a P2.

Currently Rebuilding the front and rear wheel hubs. Front were simple, rears not so much. The bearing retainer clips for the rear were seized and required some work to remove.

Rear Window Moulding Replaced. The key is loosen with a pick, then use PB Blast. Dont try to pull it out without using the PB Blast. It will just break apart (I learned)

Looks like you’re off to a great start on bringing this wagon back to life! I’ll definitely be following along

Looks good!

Love the D2 A8 as well.

Swedespeed are sticklers for blue box everything; a tad narrow-minded toward running non Volvo components.

Thanks. the D2 is going through an Identity crisis as I figure out the body work. It's stripped to bare aluminum, which I am oxidizing with a chemical, then sanding to give a faux finish. the interior is mostly stripped and cage is being made for it. Soon to be a show/ track car.

Current body work

nice work! nice to see threads like this on here these days!

tell me more about the rear window trim. some people dont replace the trim after removing it. where did you get the replacement trim? I have been looking into this lately actually. not sure if the 850 and v70 have the same trim there tho...

another one for ya - what are your thoughts on the jetex? they make a dual exhaust cat back for the 850 but its 2.5" and $750 lol - not sure i want to do that

Love your car! Super clean.

I have run Jetex on a couple of Audi/ VW cars and love the sound - refined lower rumble. However, I wanted something that sounds a little "throatier" on this build. So I am using the Jetex pipes for convenience and will run dual Magnaflow resonators. Jetex will ship directly to the US and it is cheaper to order direct than go through a US broker.

The rear trim for the V70 is part# 9483520

I paid $30 for it on sale, but the price is back up now.

Nice build!

How did you take care of the airbag light with the aftermarket wheel?

The hub adapter kit came with a jumper that has a fuse in it, but I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks. Your car sounds like it's a beast! Do you have a thread or a photo dump I could check out?

@Brandnirons is my Instagram, I need to put an updated build thread together... I’m a sporadic forum poster.

what jetex pipes are you using? are they the ones i linked, the 850 ones at 2.5"? I just wish they were larger than 2.5" but I guess it really doesnt matter with a stock frame turbo and 3" leading up to this system
