Ok. On the infamous V70 XC, the key refuses to unstick itself from the ignition! When it is turned to spot 0 it almost feels like there is a slight spring force on it. It will not come out at all. What could be the problem? I guess this thing will be taking a trip to the dealer (unless I find another mechanic close by). Is there some override or something I can use? The car starts and runs fine. Could this be another fuse? I still need to check if my AC Blower fuse(s) went out, but I do not see the AC Blower fuse or Ignition/Key lock fuse on the diagram. I see Lock/Alarm Control unit though...anyone know the fuse #'s for these? Hmm jsut noticed Ignition Switch Contact system and EL Accelerator AC Relay TCN (Auto) Accler. Electr. Relais AC. I am afraid to check the fuses for damage. Is it safe to do this with the key in the ignition?

I've had this happen before on another car. Just some things to check, does the shifter lever go all the way into P? The key won't be unlocked from the ignition unless the shifter is all the way in park. Also, sometimes the steering wheel lock makes it hard for the key to come out, try to turn the wheel slightly while trying to get the key out this may set it free.

Good luck.

I have the same problem on my 98 S70, and the problem is the shifter is just a fraction of an inch from being all the way in park, I just give it a nudge, and I bet is has no more that 1/10 of an inch to go, but that does it.

I am afraid this was not the problem...the shiftlock button is not stuck and the car is firmly in park. The wheel is not locked at all, so the steering lock is not involved (I have dealt with that before). Any more ideas? Also I still am wondering if it is safe to check fuses with the key in the ignition?

most likely you need a new mechanical ignition switch. The dealer can order one for you with the same key code if you provide the VIN.

I had this happen on my 98 s70. The shifter was in Park, but the button on the shifter was stuck. I had to pry the button out, and then the key came out.

If you disconnect the battery I don't see why it would be a problem to check the fuses as long as the key in the ignition can be turned to the O position.

Otherwise, this has me stumped. Maybe you can have the Auto Club locksmith come and take a look at it.

Tell us if you figure out a fix.

I had this problem last year. The button that is used to permit the shifter to be put anywhere without the key on (e.g into neutral to push) was stuck down because some gunk (coffee or soda?) got in it. By prying up with a knife or pliers, I was able to pull it up and it let me take the key out. (Got his suggestion from a dealer).

Thanks...to be honest I checked the button, and it was free, and it has never been used (to my knowledge). It was a little sticky, but definately not depressed. I'll triple check that.
