Hello all.... Just went to leave for lunch and the car won't start. Well let me rephrase that it started briefly and died. When it started I knew right away something was wrong, it seems to be running really weak almost like not running on all cylinders and died. Cranks over fine but fails to even attempt to start. Codes in socket A-2, 4-1-4 boost issue no others codes in A2. Any suggestions would be great! P.S. I think the car knew I got paid yesterday!

Checking vehicle out we have discovered no fuel in the fuel rail, I can hear a very slight fuel pump buzz from the rear when ignitionis first turned. Buzz only last for 2-3 seconds. When we first checked the vehicle there was fuel in rail but after purging it no fuel returns. Pump? Relay? Camshaft position sensor? Does the camshaft position sensor active the fuel circuit?

Well since there hasn't been any input from our VS members I will keep putting my two cents woth into this thread. We have spark but no fuel. Checked for melted yellow connector under back seat no such luck. After consulting our Volvo Dealer we have opted to order in a new fuel pump. Happy days!!!

Did you replace the filter? Its only like 20 bucks. The sound from the pump when you turn the key is the pump priming. Im not sure that the pump should be dead if its still making the priming noise. Replace the filter though.

We do have day jobs ya' know??? Probably is the fuel pump and you might as well replace the pump relay as well ...oh and while your in there you should probably do the injection relay....maybe that will help? sorry for the delayed response

Thanks for the info guys. I have not heard of a fuel filter killing a vehicle, but I will replace it tomorrow. I really can't see replacing relays that not defective at present. This vehicle is walking a fine line in the huge $ amounts in repairs. Love the car but very expensive to keep up. I'll let you guys know how I make tomorrow.

the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump relay. pull the relay, jumper the leads to the pump and see if your fuel pressure returns and the car starts. good luck.

Hello All..... Just back from court, Jury Duty! Thank God I didn't get picked, the guy looked huge and pissed off. I thought I would give our shop a call and see if my fuel pump/sending unit arrived today. Great news my boss informed me it worked like a charm. My 850t is back up and alive, can't wait to give back the CRV i've been driving for the weekend. Nice little SUV but no Volvo by any means. I must admit I was a little worried over the weekend if the the fuel pump was going to correct the no start issue, our shops fuel pressure gauge would not fit on the 850 fuel rail. There is really a Volvo God looking over my shoulder. I thought I would just bring you boys up to speed with my repair. All I need is my 3" downpipe from Frank and I am laughing. Frank informed me last week that the pipe had landed in Canada from Sweden. Happy days are close! Again guys thanks for all the great info.

Good to hear shes back to running. I know how frustrating it can be when your car is out of commission.
