Long long ago in a galaxy far far away, I installed all new rotors and pads on the front corners of my car. about 7000 miles after this i had pulsating in the wheel and had to have the front rotors turned. this ticked me off. 7000 miles later i had the pulsating again and had to turn the front rotors. the manager would rue that day. i was pissed. what's going on? is it crappy rotors? why is this happening? nobody would give me a straight answer. plus i was getting some mild brake noise and this was irking me too. finally I broke down and put new Volvo OEM pads on the front. Guess what? I just rode those same rotors for 2 more years until they died, without ever having to turn them again. Diagnosis? The pads stunk(PBR metal masters). No question that they were heating up the rotor considerably more than normal.
To further this argument I offer my experience today. I had my car in to replace a rear caliper. Well the rotors and pads are only one year old so should just be able to replace the caliper and go right? Wrong. The rotors were warped terribly! Once again, PBR metal masters semi metallic. I replaced with OEM once again.
So let this warn you with semi metallic pads, I firmly believe there are some (PBR) that do not dissipate heat effectively and cause higher rotor temps. Stick with OEM and save your rotors!

Best wagon ever if the damn airbox would stop vibrating and it didn't have a Ford Escort headliner.

We went aftermarket disc's & calipers all four points, but Volvo pads. No noise and the pedal feels ok and so does our cheque book!

Agreed. I wasted a ton of time and money trying to eliminate brake noise from some new pads (installed by an Inpendent). Problem was finally resolved by the dealer installing Volvo pads. I was pretty disappointed that the Indy didn't used Volvo pads. Learned my lesson...

yeah, i've had a good experience with OE pads, though I have never tried anything else...
I mean, why try something else if the ones you have are doing the job perfectly!

Many years ago when I worked for Volvo, I can remember a really cool video showing how tough Volvo brakes are. They had the disc's glowing red and still where able to stop. It was a great sales tool, compared many different types of pads and manufactures. Volvo was a really great company to work for!

The exact same thing happened to me after I replaced worn front rotors and pads on my 94 850T. Put new Zimmerman rotors and PBR pads and in a few months gave a warped feel. Had the rotors resurfaced and that helped for a few months then the vibration came back. I couldn't stand it much longer so I ordered original Volvo rotors and pads from FC Groton. Haven't had any problems since

I have found in my experience "NOTHING" works as good as the O.E pads for the late model Volvo's and Saab's as well ....I use nothing but! Deal with the dust
