This is for Bay 13 or anyone else that knows the correct specs.

I'm going to install lowering springs in a couple of days on my 2001 S60 T-5 and I'm wondering what the torque specs are on the:

3 top strut mount bolts

spring retainer bolt (if thats not the proper name I mean the one center bolt on the top of the strut.)

spindle bolts

And if I missing any bolts that need to be torqued properly please let me know.

Thanks!

3 top bolts ...nice and snug
strut to upper mount...there are 2 make the + nut snug and make the top nut tight
spindle bolts...tight
Honestly ...technicians torque very few things considering the amount of hardware a vehicle has, just go by feel as they come apart you'll be fine.

I know most techs don't torque to specs, I used to be one for few years, I didn't either. But since it's my car I would like to do everything to spec if possible, you know? smile.gif Oh well i guess I'll do it by feel like I used to do on everyone's car. lol

Thanks for replying biggrin.gif

Well I don't know the Torque specs for a S60 but I imagine they can't be far off from that of a 850/S70.

3 top strut mount bolts : 18 ft*lbs

spring retainer bolt : 52 ft*lbs

Suspension strut to steering knuckle Stage 1: 51 ft*lbs, Stage 2 : tighten an additional 90 degrees

Cross shaped nut: 52 ft*lbs

Use a torque wrench when you are opening the nuts, the amounts of force to release the nuts should be approx the same as tightening them.

Not necessarily. Even though it's a newer car, driving and time may have loosened or tightened the nuts well-off torque specs. Also, unless you have a needle-type torque wrench, using a click-type would be a huge PITA! Set it low, click, no. Little higher, click, no. Little higher, click, no. See my point?

My bad, I have the deflection beam type wrench, not the click type. I was thinking along those lines.

He could of course ask a Volvo tech at a dealership for the specs, or maybe he could pm Rich. I am sure that he would know.
