Hey all,

I haven't posted in awhile. I just dropped my oil after 3300 miles of dino oil in the auto-rx rinse phase.

I switched to valvoline syn-power full syntheti 5w30...put in 6 quarts and a mann filter.

I drove about 75 miles on it after the switch, almost all of which was 15-45 minute drives. I drove about 12 miles this morning, let the car sit for awhile and pretty much cool down, and then I checked the dipstick and it had all sorts of white foam on it.

6 to 7 inches the dipstick there was a good 1" or 2" of foam and some smaller amounts down by the bottom. When I stuck the stick back in it had just as much on it. I like this synthetic...it seems to start easier and rev a little smoother.

Is this cold weather related? We're solidly in the 20's right now. Water in the system? I thought I would've burned it off.

Is it because I put 6 quarts in and overfilled it a little?

Any help appreciated. Thanks guys!

sounds like condensation from cold weather.

Had / have the same. Had foam UP to the top of the dipstick. Have been told it is "normal" and could be due to condensation.

- Just watch the levels a bit.
- Oil in the cooling water?

Sounds like classic short-haul driving condensation. Take it on a long drive, and get it really warmed up good, then re-check. The heat should drive off most, if not all of the condensation.

Otherwise, I would say that you might have coolant in the oil, in which case I would suspect a blown head gasket, or oil cooler leaking into cooling system, or vice versa.
