850 Vs V70 Grille

The -00 V70 grille looks REAL close - it looks just a hair shorter and the sides are at a "V" angle vs the almost perfectly rectangle grille of the 850.
All that should need to be done is to cut out the center eggcrate portion of the 70 grille and the 850 grilles, trim down the side of the 70 grille a little to make it more rectangle, and attach it to the 850 chrome outer section.
Has anyone tried this or can anyone with a 98-00 XC70 AWD measure the height of the eggcrate portion of the stock grille for me?

Yuk, I like the stock one with the chrome and the eggrate recessed.
I guess I'll just have to wait until I find one at a junkyard, because I'm not going to buy a new one just to hack it up and not have it work.

Yeah, it's a 3D picture from an modeling program like solidworks or something if you look closely. The eggcrate still looks "flat" compared to the nice deep blades of the stock eggcrate grille. Like one guy said it looks like a sewer grille made to fit an 850. Maybe with the Volvo slash on there it may not look as hokey.
Also, the color in that picture looks like silver paint, not actual chrome plating. If it was chrome plating I would consider it, but silver paint again just adds to the hokey look.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do. I have a plastic welder so it wont be any problem to bond the plastics together from the back. The only problem will be if the XC grille is too SHORT. I know it's longer than the 850, which is fine because I can cut off the excess to fit. But if it's too short there's no way it will work.

That's what I'm working on now. The only hesitation was the XC90 grille is "bubbled" out, whereas the XC70 grille is flat like the 850.
The nice thing is the XC90 grille is only $140, and that includes the emblem and everything. The XC70 grille was over $200.
I think before I bite the bullet I am gonna stop by a dealership and take some measurements and examine the grille on an XC90 before I lay down that much cash...

I think if I roll up in my T5R dresses nic ethey will be fine. Heck, maybe I'll even take one for a test drive and romp on it then "think about it".
Nah, all I need to do is take 2 measurements - will take about 5 seconds. I can do that when the sales guy is not looking or steps away to get the keys or "talk to his manager".
