I am trying to decide if I am going to flush or drain and refill.Have noticed a number of people on the board have run into problems after flushing. If i drain are there any filters or screens inside that need to be cleaned or replaced. Can the tourque converter be drained if i drop the pan.

No filter to clean. Just drain the loaded dirty fluid first then if you want to flush. The plug for the AT points downward on the bottom of tranny.

re : trans flush

The key word here is 'some' have run into problems. Many hundreds, perhaps thousands have not.

How many miles do you have on the current fluid, and is the color still red and does it not smell burnt?

I bought mine with 80K, tranny fluid had never been changed. I flushed it at 100 and at 180K, both times with Amsoil, haven't had a problem

Not sure when it was last changed as I got the car used. However the last owner had it serviced at a volvo dealer. The dealer would not let me look at the maintanance records. Claimed it was a privacy issue. The fluid is still red and not burnt.

This is just something I have always been told when I was a bit younger, and that it never change your tranny oil. I don't see why not but thats just what i was told... just be careful and keep things uber clean.
