Ok here is my dilemma, or lack thereof. My 850 has roughly 146000 on it and I have never had a CEL on it. When I turn the ignition right before it cranks it lights up so I know the light is not burnt out. What gives, I feel left out that my car doesnt throw CEL's. Is there anyway I can make it happen with out throwing the car into limp mode.

CEL should illuminate with all the warning lights key on engine off #3 position I believe? I you have no management system malfunctions then you will have no CEL.

don't worry about it...you're lucky...if you've been maintaining your car well, I don't see why you would have a CEL....

If you really want to have a check engine light code thrown...(make sure you can reset it before doing):
start the car...pop the hood, unplug the MAF connector..then plug it back in right after -- That should throw a code.
But like I said, make sure you can reset the light, or otherwise you'll have a CEL annoying you for no reason

Wow, somebody complaining about not getting a CEL...
The only time I've had one was when my mother didn't screw the gas cap back on tight.

i've had 2 CELs. both for my purge valve, but it went away after i took the valve out and cleaned the contacts.
now i've got the stupid service light coming on every time i start the car. bah!
i think that means i have to take it to the dealer and get the interval reset so it's not bothing me every 3000 miles.
