I was sitting at a stop light this past weekend, when another car ran into the back of me going about 15mph on impact. Fortunately no one was hurt and the driver of the other car admitted he was too busy talking to his girlfriend.

The rear bumber seems to have taken all the brunt of the hit, and it is bent downward. There is cosmetic damage to the bumper cover itself, and I assume the brackets behind it are bent or broken (the bumper still seems to be on there very solidly). The side and trunk panels look untouched so I am hoping that I woun't need any bondo or spray work other than painting a new bumper.

Question: Anyone have any experience in removing the rear bumper cover and replacing the brackets that hold it on? Are they easy replacement parts, or generally is there going to be some metal work that needs to be done.

I'll remove the cover myself to get a better look at the damage after the adjustor completes his assessment. I just hate to see all that money go to the shop if it's an easy fix and I can use part of it for other mods.

Thanks

Give him the bill and make him pay for it! If you prefer to keep the insurance companies out, then work with the bodyshop for the lowest price that both of you can agree with.

Otherwise go the insurance route and get the best job possible for your car's sake.
