Recap: 1995 5sp non-Turbo wagon, 275K miles, will not start, but cranks happily. No codes (sat on dead battery for six months, no wonder).
Yesterday I tried an experiment, replacing the Cam Sensor to see if that unclogged the car's brain passages. No dice. With my Dad cranking the car and the HT lead grounded 1/4" from the strut mounting bolt, got no spark during cranking, BUT did get a weak (orange colored) spark from it every time the key was moved back to the "off" position. Every time.
Would this be an indication of anything in your experience? I'm still assuming that the ECU is supressing spark for some electronic reason and that the one spark I get at shutdown is probably a standard routine?
Would love it if it's just a coil or something obvious! Thanks.

Moisture in the distributor cap?
Are you getting fuel from the schraeder valve on the fuel rail w/ key in pos. II?
I would simply replace all of the ignition components if you're getting fuel (cap, rotor, coil since you have so many miles, wires).

If there's no spark from the coil, then the condition of the distributor cap is irrelevant.
No one knows anything about coil diagnosis, or why I'm seeing a spark when the key shuts down? Oh well. See my ad in the classifieds for this beast as a parts car -- yours for only $500!!!
Thanks everyone for your input.
