Hi,
I took my 1998 S70 T5 to autozone to get the OBD II codes read for a check engine light. It kept coming up as unreadable. Then a friend told me there may be a sequence with the key to unlock the codes for the OBD II reader. Do you know what this sequence might be? Or where I could find it?
thank you,
Jason

Apparently he didn't know, I called the dealership and they want 82 dollars to check it. Is position II just the on position?

Why should he never go to that dealer again? Because they want $82 to read/reset codes? Should it be free or what? Are there really Volvo dealers who will do that for free? I paid that to get my SRS light reset at an Indy when I "forgot" to disconnect the battery when removing the driver airbag. Didn't even bother calling a dealer because I figured it would be more and they are farther away. So if they normally do this stuff cheap I'd like to know.

82 dollars to reset codes is absurd IMO...that is over an hr worth of labour ($75 is the rate at volvo of Danbury i belive)

Yes it should be free.. it takes 20 seconds! I've seen dealers try to get you to pay to recieve your radio code!

My dealer wanted $25 to reset the service light...is that bad? Because I thought it was rediculous.

I'm not taking sides ...but remember we do have to purchase this equiptment(indy's do anyway) and when you spend $250 for a service light reset tool and $2500/$3000 for a scan tool that reads SRS ABS ETC not to mention another scan tool that reads obdII codes and monitior's (not just a code reader) you have to justify the cost somewhere?....Now $85 in my book is a bit extreme? but that's my opinion. I usually do it for free for all my regular clientel. But I'm making money on them elsewhere. If you wanna complain about anything complain about the P2 cars needing downloads for everything you darn near replace on them.
