Hi everyone....I'm stoked to find such a good user group for all things Volvo....I own a 1963 p1800 and a 1999 S-80 T6....so this seems like a good home!
On the S-80 the check engine light came on during some freeway driving, and the computer display thing says "emission system service required". The car still runs fine, in fact I've pretty much ignored this warning for about 2k miles now. What could this be indicating(specific component) and is there a way to "read" the computer without paying the dealer $150 to plug into it? I'm guessing it's something simple like an 02 sensor, but would like to save the $$ by repairing it myself (that money would be nice to use on some Bilsteins for the '63!)
Any help is appreciated, from advice to good service leads in my area. I am on the Central Coast of Ca. in Santa Maria..Thanks
Cheers!

Best bet is to take it to a dealer, and have them use VADIS to read the codes. Could be a funky ETM, these cars seem to go through them every now and then. I hope you are under warranty....

I think any OBDII scanner can read and reset your codes. Try at a shop near you.

Call Autozone, Kragens, or Pep Boys. One of them allows you to check your computer using the OBD II reader for free. If you get a code go to the internet and check what the code means. I know that Autozone allows you to rent a spring compressor for free. smile.gif

Thanks for the great tip...I'll try to find the "free" code reader and take it from there...If all else fails, I can go to the dealer....
