The following VWs are the ones that (from my personal experience for most of them, though a few like the R32 I've obviously never had a chance to take on) when they are stock could make a good race w/ an Stock S70 T5 depending on the coniditions (from a roll/standstill, highway speeds or low speeds, weather conditions and so on, manual/AT):
VW Golf R32, 237hp, 1/4 in high 14s @ 95-99mph
VW Corrado VR6, 190hp, 1/4 in the low 15s @ 90-95mph
VW Toureg V10, 313hp, 1/4 in the low 15s @ 89-94mph
VW Golf V6 4Motion, 204hp, 1/4 in the low 15s @ 90-94mph*
New VW GTI 1.8T, 180hp, 1/4 in the low 15s @ 90-95mph***
Old VW Golf VR6, 174hp, 1/4 in the high 15s @ 85-95mph*
VW Passat W8, 271hp, 1/4 in the very high 15s/low 16s @ under 90 mph (Automatic)
VW Golf 2.3 V5, 170hp, 1/4 in the very high 15s/low 16s @ under 90 mph*
If I put a * next to it it means a LOT of em are modded around here, so watch out.
PS - If you find quarter mile times that don't fit in there let me know kindly, I'm sure there are some I didn't look at when I was searching around. But I have raced stock for stock everything but the toureg and the R32 and the W8, and every time it was close. Now, they don't even stand a chance.

And BTW - like doug said the chipped + exhausted 1.8Ts make huge improvements, the problem stock is most of the power is up in the top of the rpm band. that band can be shifted a bit for well under a grand. That said the passat is not gonna have so much of a chance stock, but in theory the GTI might hold up if you're having a bad day. You can see the old VW Golf VR6 above, the only big difference between that one and the new one is the paltform. The old VW GTI (and golf?) shared the Audi A3 platform. The new VW GTI is on the A4 platform. Other than that the new ones have a bit more low end torque and feel quicker, but they don't perform any better in straight line situations. Most of the improvements were made to the suspension/chassis.
