Both the driver, passenger and maybe the rear seat belt don't want to unbuckle. Scared me as I don't think I'd be able to get out of the car if they didn't. I guess I gotta carry a Rambo knife around, in case they won't release. Does the spring just wear out? Does Volvo, as I read somewhere, guarantee them for life? Thanks.

seat belts are not guaranteed for life, but 7 or 8 years.
They are probably dirty and sticky. Try some penetrating lubricant like WD40

look down in the buckle and make sure there isn't a coin down in there, I've seen that before. I also agree with wd40 or something to lube up the receptor for the buckle.
