Flash Green / Atacama V70R - Updated 4/14

Recommended Posts

Josh,

That is coming along nicely!

Perhaps you can save your pennies and get a set of the Atacama 'colored' seat leather from George.

I reckon this will give you the look and offer better wear than the existing atacama.

(or get the leather re-finished/dyed)

That is a sweet ride. Any plans to lower it? And what tune are you running?

I like it.  As for the leather, it's in a state where you can just ignore it and not worry about it.  You don't have to worry about eating in the car, spilling a little coffee or soda or any other possible "whoops" moments.  Just enjoy the ride.  Maybe they can take a good cleaning/conditioning but I'd just leave the seats alone.  One less thing to worry about.

As for the rest of the car, it's coming along nicely.  I still can't believe what you paid for it and that it's STILL a decent driver after the work you've done (albeit quite a lot of work) so you have to be proud of the results.  I'm impressed.

Great looking car!

I wonder, is Flash Green the rarest color?

Anyway, looks like you're making good progress with it.

Let us all know if you have any success restoring your leather.

Bob

Not sure if it's THE rarest, but very few around. Next step is going to be trying leatherique to see what it can do.

I would love to go this route. Unfortuantely I don't have the time or money to get this done. Maybe in the future...

That is a sweet ride. Any plans to lower it? And what tune are you running?

I've been offered some lowering springs, and I'll probably kick myself later, but I don't think I'm going to lower it. Being that it's a daily I just don't want to contend with the tire wear issues. No tune either, that's why the overboost problem is a bit of a head scratcher. Think I've got it under control though.

I am pleased with it still, even though I do cuss it every now and then.

Man thats Nice!!! You've been a busy boy.  Question, did you have to drop the subframe to get the Transmission out? Is this pretty much SOP for V/S R's?

I think in the VIDA instructions they have you just drop the subframe partially then you can remove the transmission. I can get a subframe out in less than 45 minutes, so it makes sense to just get it out of the way.

Here is a pic of the trans going back in

I used to get a little overboost issue when I had my 3"dp and no tune. IIRC it was inbetween shifts though, because of the lack of back pressure...

So do you plan on getting a OTS tune or trying to do a self tune? Lots of stuff floating around that sounds like we'lll have that option VERY soon... :)

Yea, I was thinking the DP was partially to blame. I turned the waste gate down to 4psi cracking pressure and I've been inching it up since with the new TCV. No more over boost, but in most gears I'm getting about 12psi. Of course I'd rather have 12 than 30!

The self tune looks interesting, but I would have l lots of research to do before jumping into that.

Agreed, I know zero about it, but I'd be a faster learner rather then shelling out $$$$ to folks that are not local and can't dial it in perfect. Not that I'm complaining about my Speedtuning tune, it's been great and I've had zero issues with it. Self tune would give me the abilty to upgrade without going for a retune... That's all...

Have you looked into Steve-O? He's been doing custom tunes for some of thos CT guys... I have my stock ECU that I could send him to "work with..." ;)

You planning on upgrading turbo parts like CBV and WGA?

I'm not familiar with this Steve-O guy? CT is a LONG way from Nashville

I probably forgot to mention, I did install the Forge CBV while doing the clutch job, much easier that way. I've looked into the Forge WGA, but funds are limited at the moment.

Tell me about the "delete the resonator" pipe.  Is this something I can order?

Not something you can order, but something you can have done easily. It just involves cutting out the resonator in the middle of the exhaust and welding in a straight pipe. If you still have the stock down pipe it gives the exhuast a much nicer sound, plus a little extra power to boot. Mine cost $6 and some change, but that's because I did it myself. I'm sure most exhuast shops would do this for under $100.

Our much beloved V70R (~110K miles) overheated on a family trip from Oakland to LA this week.  It now sits at a dealer/service station waiting either for us to pour more money into it than we can afford right now, or for you to come and pick it up.  Asking $1500, OBO.  Then you can either fix the thermostat (and possibly head gasket) yourself, or part it out.
We are the original owners, with complete service records.  Right before this trip, it had a regular service and new front brakes done (but, ugh, not the thermostat).
Needs to happen by Weds July 8, in Los Angeles. Paypal, Venmo works.
(1st side facing pic is from this week, dash board & down facing pic from last year.)

Hi im new to this forum and this is my first post.
      i have a V70r 1999
there seems to be difficult to find a gearbox replacement 1208943. Reason for replacement is the gears are slipping when the atf is hot. I want to rebuild it but instead of taking down the one on the car I’m looking for one used I can rebuild and swap with the one on the car.
my questions is: can i use other gearboxes F.ex 1208942 from xc70?
Does anybody here know What might be wrong with the one i have? No DTCs!
Does anybody have A 1208943 they might wanna sell? Or maybe 8111193..
other things I can do except flush as I just did that? 12l jws3309+treatments+leakstop
where is the Volvo race mechanics ? 😅

A slightly neglected but making a comeback, 70R that is just itching to find a motivated owner. Nearly every month, we all read, or hear about, another R selling for CRAZY money. This particular R is NOT crazy money. It's reasonable money. $4000.00 and who knows, it may be even cheaper. What I would REALLY be interested in, is a TRADE. STRAIGHT ACROSS. CAR FOR CAR.

      MINE; 2005 VOLVO V70R ONE OF 674
190,000. Mostly fwy commute miles silver paint with the typical Gobi colored leather. Yes, it would be nice if it were flash green with Atacama but it's not. Clean title, never been involved in any significant accidents. NO panel has been repainted. Has a few of the typical umps and bruises but nothing big. Interior is Gobi leather and is a little tired. CaR starts easily, idles nicely, revs like a pissed off banshee,  has a working 4C system, all three settings, NO CHECK ENGINE LITE, NO codes other than ignition ring and rear wiper motor.
Automatic trans with a new, Quality replacement, valve body including all eight shift solenoids. New, not ebay Chinese "reman" solenoids as well as all new proper transmission fluid. I have set adaptation thru VIDA only to find out that the VIN LOCKED TCU is probably "bricked" and needs a XEMODEX replacement.  APPROXIMATELY  $499.95  I just don't want to deal with it as I have other cars and projects in various stages of completion and have no room.
If I were to keep it, I would absolutely do an M66 Install as this conversion alone seems to make people go mad and throw huge amounts of cash at owners.
If I had the room I'd strip it bare and make it a 6 speed track only car with full cage etc.
Yours; 95-97 855R  prefer red but any R color would work. Needs to be in reasonably decent condition. NO SALVAGED TITLE. Must run. NO more than 2 years out for tags. I understand how old they are and how crappie the interior plastic is now so I won't freak about a cracked or broken interior. PLEASE,  NO TOTAL POS CARS BUT SOME ISSUES ARE EXPECTED
Interested? Let me know what you're thinking and maybe we can make something happen
