Yeah, the one that I removed had the connections at 90 degree angles. But this one fit right in, connector connected. I can only assume it works.

It's not the one for your car, so I don't know how long it will work or if it will work correctly. But it might don't know.

It's the one that FCPGroton sells tagged as "S70s 1998 Only."

It is radically different from the one I removed though. The old one didn't hold a vacuum going to the intake manifold.

Did you replace the gas cap with a factory one like was originally suggested or are you still using the pep boys cap?

Still using the generic gas cap, but I had it checked at an emissions station and it held vacuum just fine.... Should I still get an OEM cap? I don't know where my old one went...

IIRC, there is someone that sells the OEM Volvo caps on eBay for like $15 or so. I think that could be part of the problem. If not, the only other thing would be a leaky or disconnected hose that actually goes into the canister or the valve.

My attempts to follow the vacuum lines coming out of this doohicky were unsuccesful. I have no idea where the canister is.

Maybe the valve I got just doesn't work for S70s? It's radically different than the one I took off.

That's the one I took off. Compare to the pictures of the new one I posted previously.

The part number thats on your correct valve is the 8627005, thats what you need, that number superceeds to a 9125243, order that part number.

So howcome I have a 1998 model, and the fcpgroton site says "For 1998 S70s only?"

Because the kind you are suppose to use depends on your emissions code.

There was no mention of that on the FCP website. sad.gif

Any idea why this other one doesn't work? Different levels of vacuum involved or something?

I have no Idea why a part not made for your car doesn't work.

In the future check for a part number on your part and then give them a call to avoid these problems. Not all parts people know the right questions to ask.

That's the thing, I ran the part number on my old part through Volvo's computerized part catalogue. It recieved no hits. Then you tell me that the part number changed, and that I have to use the old number for ordering. How was I to know that to begin with?

You arn't, it's not your fault. You are not a technician or a parts person. The tech would have told them the year and model and the "square" evap valve if they tried to give the round one. A good parts counter would ask what the emissions code was. All things that didn't happen here but you can get ahold of them and suggest that in the future they ask for the emissions code so you can get the correct part.

Think they'll take back the wrong one? Or am I gonna have to shell another $17.50 for the new style one? I emailed Nick about it and hopefully I'll hear back on Monday.

They should be willing to correct the problem.

How often does a new OEM gas cap fix this problem? I have the P0455 code cleared and it keeps coming back.

Also, anyone have a part number for an OEM fuel cap? FCP and Taylor and others carry STANT caps, not Volvo OEM.
