94 855 T. The first 5-19 minutes of driving it sounds like a loud valve then is gone when car is fully warmed up. What does this indicate? I've got 144k, just got the car and am still getting to stage 0. Is is a starved or worn valve?
Thanks

If it was a valve I think it would be there all the time regardless of engine warm up. However a lifter(hydraulic like you have) might be the problem.

I think it's something we didn't hear when we drove the car Grant. It's only for a few minutes then is gone.
Is a bad/weak lifter ok for a while or should I have it checked out? Are there other symptoms like burning oil, etc?
Thanks

Try some Sea Foam or Marvel mystery oil. Read the directions, Just a small amount is needed. If A clogged lifter /slow filling tappet this will fix it . Cheap to try.

It is normal to older cars with hydraulic lifters. The oil seaps out of them when parked overnight. They fill back with oil after a few seconds of engine running as the oil pressure builds up. No worry!
