1998 XC70 121,000 miles
I'v had a small oil leak for quite a while and I now have time to address this matter. I believe I have localized the leak to either the oil return line or the junction between teh Turbo drain pipe and the engine block. Actually, I can only say that there is oil sludge on the rear of the engine block and on the bottom of the turbo charger. I've tried to clean both areas and see if more oil comes out but because of it's akward location pinpoint determination of the exact cause has eluded me. My first plan of action is to install a turbo drain pipe seal kit (IPD). However, while I have this line unattached I was going to address the seal around the oil return line where it mates to the engine block. First, how does the oil return line attach to the rear of the engine? I could only see that there appears to ba a gasket around this line. Basically, how is it held in place? Since I cannot rule out any of the other oil lines that run under the turbo charger, are there any lines that commonly fail? Any help with this matter would be of great help.

Common problem . The return line has 2 bolts under the turbo . The tube actually is a slip fit into the engine at the bottom . There is a green seal that goes in that bottom hole. Take off the 2 bolts loosen and move line so that the tube can be pulled up and remove tube. Replace seal install ,move tube with new gasket to turbo and install.
