at idle, how much PSI should a boost gauge read ?

car --> 1997 850 T5/stock

like -10 psi or so. At idle the intake should be under vacuum.

I think it should be around 18-20mmHg or -6.8hkpa (bar). The unit is not PSI because it doesn't have any pressure, it's vacuum.

you are of course correct it converts to like 20-22 in Hg tongue.gif

Can't have any fun wth the non tech types......

Actually at idle you have no boost, it's called vacuum my friend, it it should be anywhere between 17 and 22 or so depending on mods, cam profile etc. Perhaps you should read through the repairs and maintenance section a bit.

mine idle vac is at about 18psi with the mods listed below...this is with no KNOWN leaks, though I do have to do another hose replacement soon

18 sounds good, if you slip the trans up to neutral it will drop down a bit as well.
