i hear this occassional grinding/scraping noise coming from the front right when i brake, usually most noticeable when downhill with moderate brake pressure and nearing the end at around 20 mph-0. i took off the rims and checked the rotors, calipers, and pads..i don't see any noticeable abnormal wear. don't hear it on acceleration. and it isn't always there.

could it be the shaft? cv? hub? or still just a brake problem?

Check to make sure that the brake rotor dust shield is not bent and rubbing on the rotor.

Sometimes when you have new pads on old rotors, the pads will make noise breaking into and seating on the old rotors. Do check the dust shield.

took a closer look...the pads were pretty much done, probably 1mm of grove left on the pads. got new ones, and viola, no more grinding. interestingly, the pads are not evenly worn for each caliper as well as for left and right calipers...the right one wore out faster..

must be all that hard left cornering you do or something, or maybe all the mountain curves out there in SF generally turn left!!
