Well, after much farting around I couldn't for the life of me get the triple DIN to work the way I wanted (recessed gauges, angled to driver with smoked door in front of gaues so I could close if need be).

I am now going to mount this to the top of the dash:

I don't know if it fits yet, but it's the ONLY dash console that I found that:

1. Wasn't ricey like the APC "hump" dash pods
2. Looked stock finish (i.e, the leather grain)
3. Fits the lines of the stock 850 dash perfectly.

From the pic it looks like it could have come stock from Volvo. Especially with black faced Defi gauges.

I'm expecting that it will be WAY too long because it's made for a truck, and that I will have to modify it to fit the 850 dash.

I'm going to order it and see what it looks like. If it looks stupid or way too big I'm just going to custom make something.

Thats what I was thinking. The area right over the center heater vents right?

Good luck!

Sweet idea Slater, hope it works out for ya. I've thought of something along these lines before, but couldn't find a pod that looked "Volvo."

looks like it matches the lines of the 850 dash very well, should look almost factory if installed cleanly (like I'm sure it will be smile.gif )
I can't really see the grain on it in the pic but that's a plus as well.

Does it come in charcoal? If so I might be interested... I'm waiting eagerly to hear your results!

Ok, that triple pod on the dash, or on the a-pillar.

I'm really thinkin the A pillar looks way better.. Just IMO of course, but combined with all the custom work you're gonna have to do, the a pillar one is sooo much easier... get a lil window tint, and it won't look ricey at all.

A buddy of mine started to make a dash mount there... Great idea except for the hole-in-the-dash part. blink.gif

Sure would look good though.

I thought about this too. Mount it back far enough and you can run the wires through the defroster vents. A little electrical tape over the wires to the dash and no one is the wiser.

Yup. Or spare dash from junkyard.

I am thinking of having a buddy glass that one into the dash, then recover the whole dash in black vinyl. Would definitely look stock then!

Have you thought about doing it above the actual gauge cluster? Shove it far enough forward and I dont think it'd interfere w/ visablity and would be GREAT for keeping your eyes on the road.

I don't think so... I mean how tall are you? I guess it would depend on how you sit in the seat...

I'd lose most of the display behind the wheel.

Are there any more pics of that gauge pod? I'd like to see how deep it is.

The one I was looking at was for a Scooby WRX.

I agree with Kevin. Im only 5'8" and I sit pretty high in the car still. If you could do your own glass work you might be able to make em be pretty low profile.
