I was going through a banking drive up lane while looking at my wallet, let go of the wheel and bam! I already bought a new one, so once I have Jake fix this one up it will be my spare / keeper for next time I curb one.

Gary, some low profile tires have an extra piece of rubber that extends out past the surface of the rim to protect against curb rash..

Yep, Kev's right-on. Some tire brands have built-in "rim guards" such as Falkens. They have saved my rims on many occasions.
To those who have PZero Neros M+S, does the tire have a rim guard? I'm thinking of these for my next set. Thanks.

the rims guards are usually so small you gotta go super slow...

i need rim guards that COVER the lip haha
and are about 1 inch thick
don't worry...i'm gonna get tires with guards next time and drive slower....i saw JLT's car

If you pull up a website like TireRack, they'll have a criteria column for "Rim Protector" or something like that. If you can see the tire actually mounted on a wheel, a well-fitted tire will actually have a little lip extend out past the width of the rim. The idea is to "buffer" the impact, it won't completely prevent all curb rash. Just the light stuff!
