well for all of us who get hit hard by salt/sant e/t/c it can do some serrious dammage to the paint...my lower front door pannels and side skirt trim really took a beating this winter... tackled one side of the side skirt trim today

start w/ a good clean car
then wet sand with 1500 grit
let dry
come back with a rubbing compound, turtle wax RED compound works well
wax
detail spray

here's before/after...you can really see how bad the door got it...it doesn't look bad from 3/4 feet back but when you get up close you can see the pitting e/t/c

Wet sandpaper, very fine grit. Use soap and water with the sandpaper... it's like you're prepping your body for paintwork, except this is the final stage of body work along with polishing it with an orbital buffer.

Fine wetsanding of your clearcoat will smooth it out to a super glossy surface when you buff it out with compound and polish, then wax it. It just takes a oh yeah! of a long time and a lot of elbow grease.

Did you try Meguiar's scratchX? It works for me and for deeper scratches I use 2000 grit paper followed by scratchx and then wax.
