First time poster and new supporting member - I have a 1995 850 Turbo wagon w/ 192k on it (and yes it does have OBD-2). My check engine light is on and now the service engine light is on as well. I have ordered the scan tool from Alex Pepper and it should arrive in a couple of days. Once I have the scan tool I will know more. Until then, I pulled the codes from under the hood and recived code (3-1-5) aka Evap Emission Control.

Does anyone know how to interpet this code?

Yes the code says that more than likely your Evap Valve(cansister purge valve is bad) You will need to replace it. You might also need a wire adaptor cause the new Evap valve may not connect to your harness correctly. There have been at least 3 threads on this in the last week. Try search.

Here is a post about it...Rich has posted more links to more fixes there also...and I'll offer you what I offered the other guy....I have the EVAP valve kit without the wiring adapter for sale if you want it for $90 plus shipping....part number 272190 for your research purposes....you would need to find the wiring adapter though

-Pras-

you will need to call www.fcpgroton.com for the price of the kit....dealer retail is $160

Bay13 - Thanks for the info! I have searched the thread and did come across a link that showed pictures of the procedure. However, I can not find the post that illustrated the process a second time. Any chance you might have that link bookmarked somewhere?

Also, how will I know if I need the wiring harness? Thanks in advance!

You need the wiring if the new valve won't fit your connector.

I had the same code today, 3-1-5. I checked FCPGroton and they had a purge vlv from Bosch for 52.00 Is this the part I need?
1995 Volvo 850 GLT Estate. 140,000 mi.
Pretty much just like it came out of the box, but I love it!

Yes thats the valve you need. Once you get it if the connector doesnt work get ahold of FCP again and tell them you need the wiring adapter.

I have 3-1-5 as well as 2-4-1 (EGR low flow). Are they related. I got the CEL last night, and drove another 25 miles with it on. I want to get the parts from FCP Groton, but want to make sure the purge valve and associated parts are all I need.

Rich, I just talked to FCP Groton, and they have no idea about a wiring adapter or any kind of inline filter to go with the purge valve.
I would like to at least put in the filter.

The Volvo PN for the EVAP kit is 272190 (this is what most of you need)
The Volvo PN for the inline filter assembly is 1275794
The Bosch PN for the valve is 0 280 142 300
The Volvo PN for the wiring adapter is 1270313

I have all this but the wiring adapter for sale for pretty cheap if anyone wants it.

Search next time, the only reason I keep helping on this is because I need to sell my kit!

The purge valve I have in my car has the same part number as the new one. Did they change the wiring hookup, but left the pn the same? How much for the parts you have? I can get the filter (38.46) and valve (52.00) from the dealer and FCP Groton. The kit from the dealer is 160.22. Hopefully I won't need the adapter. Also do you know if a 2-4-1 code (EGR low flow) can be thrown because of a bad valve?

How do you do that? Is there something you need to read a code?

oh sorry... I posted this morning about my 1996 850 Turbo Wagon, the check engine light came on yesterday and I don't know why. I've been doing a bit of research and found the page here: http://www.volvospeed.com/CheckEngine.php

Is that what he meant by codes? I've been a Volvo owner for a whole three days so please excuse my lack of understanding of the lingo. Plus, I'm not exactly car savvy as a general rule anyway. I bought the Volvo because a friend has one and he loves it, I've driven it and I liked it quite a bit and when I drove this one I liked it right away. I want it to be ok. smile.gif
