This isn't exactly a racing story, but it fits here better than any other forum. K, I was at Volvo of Richardson yesterday afternoon getting my car aligned and being told I need a new left lower control arm dry.gif . Anyways, walking back out, this black S60R had parked next to me and the guy was going to get back in his car. I started to get suspcious when he started the car and instead of the new Volvo weaksauce exhaust note, it roared. It was a beautiful sound, throaty, yet refined in a way. Lemme make somethin' clear first before I go any further. Around here, about 80% of Volvo drivers are middle-aged women. I can count all of the modified Volvo's I know of in my city of 250,000 people on one hand. So, this was just too much for me to not go over and find out what the hell was going on. So I went over and asked the guy what he had done to the car and he said he got the stage 2 kit from Svenske Racing installed. He said he's on the R forum occasionally over at SS. I almost laughed when he said this cause we make fun of those silly guys over there for talking about floormats and stuff. Anyways... he said he runs 12.84 sec 1/4 mile. It was the 6-speed version of course. So then he took off saying his wife was going to interrogate him about his whereabouts if he didn't get home and I couldn't get over how wicked the car sounded. I asked my indy who also works at the dealer later that evening if he knew any thing about the car. He said it was the fastest Volvo's he's ever seen and this is coming from a guy who's daily driver is soon to be a Nissan 240 w/ a built SR20DET dropped in it.

I just thought I'd let you guys know that when tuned right, those new R's are nothing to mess with. HHmm, now I want one. Ya know, yesterday was my birthday, and if every member here contributed $4 to the Sean NEEDS an S60R fund, I could buy one biggrin.gif . It'd be a great late birthday present cool.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

He said he's not on VS, only SS every once in a while. I don't know what his SN would be though. Didn't ask. It looked like that car Johann, except it had silver HRE wheels on it.

It might be enough with drag radials and running higher boost. Plus, there's that whole having traction due to AWD thing.

and theres that whole, 50% drive-train loss due to Haldex's crappy electronically controlled diffs...unless he's stripped the car down a lot in weight, I doubt even with 350whp, he could run mid-12s....to give you an idea of how fast that is, its about the same as a modded 03' Cobra (the supercharged one)....

I don't want to sound like the prick here, and I'll be more than happy to eat my words if I see some timeslips, but I just don't see any of the Rs getting that low this quickly...it took the B5 S4 guys a long time to get into the 12s...and thats after extensive modifications. Not just exhaust, intake, chip and intercooler.

If it weren't for the fact that I can't launch the R (rolleyes.gif ) I would have given it a try with my V70R during last weekend's drag event. The track used is known to be a few tenths slower compared to other 1/4 mile strips. This mainly because it is a race track where only 2-3 times a year drag events are organized and this in the opposite direction of the track..
I think if done well I can do 13 mid to low with my R which is ~200 lbs heavier compared to an S60R.
My R tested 404 crank HP on RICA's static MAHA dyno which isn't known for being optimistic.
The car is still a bit low on torque but results are already promising.

Personally Johann I wouldnt launch the crap out of your V70R regardless of wether you can or not...I'm a little sceptical about volvo's drivetrain + plenty traction + your 404 MAHA horsepower being a sound combination from a dead stop

If he has traction cause of AWD why would he need slicks?

No idea. It is still strongly FWD biased though, correct?
