Hey do you have to have a buffer for polish or can you hand do it? I like to hand-do all my detailing because i feel like i have more control. I gotta get rid of these swirls.

To remove swirls you'll definitly need a polisher like a Porter Cable. Doing it by hand will take forever but if you want to you can, besides its definitly worth it to get one. For waxing I prefer doing it by hand.

I use the Porter Cable random orbital with the orange foam pad for removing swirls, then the red pad for applying wax and lastly the micro fiber bonnet for removal. See Griot's Garage

You'll use less wax and apply two coats much quicker using the porter cable.

Unless you're a nut and use souveran signature on your car. Then you can use your hands, literally.

You do not need a buffer to remove swirls. You just need patience and a lot of time. I have swirl free finish on my car and I do not own a buffer. It really depends on what you sue. I use Klasse All In One followed by 4 Star Ultimate Paint Protection. I let that sit and then put a coat of Victoria's Concours Wax. I really like that wax, you apply it with your bare hand. This will produce a lot of depth to the finish and also provide a lot of protection.

I use Meguire's Quick Wax, you can spray it on while its still wet and then do one while its dry.. Doesnt take that long and you can do it all by hand..

hand polishing isnt poishing at all, its just waxing, if you have swirls in your paint you have to use a buffer to gett them out, with waxing them you might hide them but they will come back shortly

You CAN polish them out by hand, but it is an insane amount of work to do. If you don't want to spend too much money or spend too much time though, you could get some wax with 'fillers' in it, that will hide the swirls but not remove them.

Some people! doing QUICK WAXES!? tongue.gif I only hand polish my 850 even though paint on passenger side sux, I've found that the Color Cure™ turtle wax does any AWESOME JOB. It's almost like omg 5 dollars saved my car. If you use it on your plastics it turns then darker color as well, very good for those bumpers and trim. well...ive got black car so the black color cure makes everything darker. I STRONGLY recommend this for anybody that likes taking the time to hand wax their car and laugh when water drops roll off it, and you can slide across the hood dukes of hazard style! laugh.gif

oh and it also fills in small little scratches takes swirls out a little as well

The only thing about a buffer, is that i am afraid that i'll burn the paint. doing it by hand i have full control. what kind of pad should i use to apply and take off the polish? Is mothers polish any good? by the way, whoever is using quick detailing spray is wasting their time. Yeah sure you get a just waxed look for like 10 minutes, but it wears off in a matter of days. Just spend a day in the shade applying a good coat of wax (or 2) on your car. It'll be more worthwile to your paint. And you dont have to re-apply it every week...it lasts for a long time and you dont have re do it for another 60 to 90 days. I do have a buffer but i need to know what kinda pads to use.

ok, frist thing, you appley 2 coats of wax doesnt do much of anything, one coat is enough, after that your just wasting time,

what kinda buffer do you have? there are high speed ones and a slow speed one, i guessing you have the high speed one cuase you worried about burnig paint, which can happen! but if you just keep the pad falt on the car and stay away from edges you should be fine, as for what pad to use. depends, if the car is really monkeyed then a whool pad is needed, but if you jsut wanna bring out more of a sine a yellow foam pad is waht you need, the compound is the important part. if your using the foam pad you dont want anything agrisve at all

sorry for the spelling!

Alright here's the scoop. I have a ryobi orbital buffer. It has a 10" diameter. I have one more question...where can i get applicator pads for it. Im pretty sure its a low speed. All i am trying to do is get swirls outa my paint. It shouldn't be anything aggressive at all, and wool would absolutely dispatch my paint. Secondly, where do i get detailing supplies? Ive tried places such as autozone, they ahve some stuff but not really anything great. I also found some good stuff at target. They have zymol leather care, and some good tire stuff as well as meguires gold class wax. Where do i get all the good polishes and applicator pads? thanks
