Duct tape? No, toilet paper - final answer. Oh well, just when I said your car was immaculate in another thread ...

Seriously, how do you plan on getting that fixed? How about redyeing with Kiwi Premium black shoe polish - cheap enuf fix to try.

You get to come all the way from the GA to my place and fix my trim for me Will. Let me know when you arrive. And bring some good paint and aluminum polish with you! tongue.gif

I suck at painting stuff, so I'm not even going to attempt this. I hope someone in Los Angeles or San Diego has some experience with this on their Volvo...or someone on VS who's tried something and has proven that it works?

Aluminum needs to be primed with an acid etching primer. prep it by sanding off all the old paint, clean it, prime it paint it

You're speaking "foreign" to me....I have never sanded or primed anything.....I'll just have to balls-out and try it....

I painted mine flat black 2 summers ago w/ some kind of regular spray paint and it's now starting to come off a bit. I didn't prime but I sanded the hell out of it.

I removed the trim from the car (pretty easy) then masked off the rubber and went to town. The entire project took about 2 hours not including drying time between coats.

by the way Pras why do you need aluminum polish?

Is the trim made of aluminum? Didn't know that as mine is rubberized which is probably why it hasn't cracked nor faded so much in 9 years. I agree with Merlin that polished aluminum will look good on a silver car. Could match the grill like belts to shoes. Hehe.

polishing the trim could yield some pretty sweet results... if you have some spare time I think it'd be worth a shot, and if you don't like it you could of course paint over it smile.gif

that's a good idea...maybe I'll try that first, but I think it'll look ghetto with the grey rails....the trim is rubberized or painted over, but if you peel that off, then it's aluminum underneath.

how much is that trimp piece anyway? Compare that cost to the 98-00 V70XC euro rails...what's the difference in cost then?

I think it's some ridiculous price, but I haven't checked...i'm going to do that tomorrow. Anyway, I painted it tonight (in the dark), and it looked somewhat okay...I'll have a better idea tomorrow, and there will be pics of course. Also did my side moldings, and will do bumpers....any ideas on an easy way to get the trim off the bumpers without removing the whole bumper? Is it safe to just tape off and spray?
