hey all,

i'm looking at buying gray1g's 95 850 turbo wagon... it's very nice and if everything checks out at the dealership on monday, i don't see why i wouldn't buy this car.

i've just got one question, especially for those of you in Pennsylvania. the car has 35% tint in the front and 25% in the back.

from what i understand, for whatever crappy reason PA's laws are 70% tint or more.. which is hardly anything, right?

i know on my parents old 93 minivan we had the windows tinted quite a bit.. and that was 10 years ago! i see quiet a few vans and even cars and SUV's around here that have tinted windows that certainly aren't 70%!

what is the experience of you guys who live in PA? will this car pass inspection? it looks really nice, i'd hate to not pass inspection or something dumb because of it!

Basically there are two reasons for limiting tint amounts: cops like to see what they're got in the car they're about to pull over or walk up to, and the other one is at night, whether you realize it or not, you get a lot of cues (not clues, but I guess that applies too) about traffic approaching and your own maneuvers etc from their lights, and reducing the ability to get those cues is not smart.

Some people are like Slinkies. They're good for absolutely
nothing but a lot of fun to push down the stairs.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Timing has an awful lot to do with the outcome of a raindance.

I remember when I was looking into tinting my 95 850 n/a's windows, the guy said it was illegal in Pa to tint at all. So I thought to myself why is he offering this service if he told me it was illegal. So I can't answer on what current laws are, but from own experience.

our shops window tint sheet basically says, on the front side windows, anything over a 70 percent is illegal, but...the truth of hte matter is, there is a lot of margin between illegal and getting pulled over.

our experiences over the years is that 35 on the front sides and you are pretty much fine, 20 you are fine if you dont drive an otherwise obnoxious car. basically, if they can see you inside during hte day, almost no cop will pull you over just for tint...but, if you drive like an jerk and say gets pulled for speeding, they may give you a ticket for the tint as well...

yeah, i would think they'd rather pull over a neon or a civic or something for being a stupid driver, then pull over a volvo station wagon for having tinted windows.

All tint here in Rhode Island is illegal, but only on cars. Trucks you can tint, the law is written really oddly. I went to shop in Mass, and they said they tint RI cars all the time. I wouldn't be too worried about it, an officer isn't going to pull you over for tint (think of how many cars you see with tint near officers versus how many get pulled over) but they could easily tack it on if you got pulled over for something else.
