As some of us know, the grease inside of the CV joint is some horrible crud. That shiznit is really thick and sticks to everything.

Today I decided to wash the inside of my rims while I was in the process of rotating them. I went through three rims perfectly fine until I got to the one that had the CV boot tear (replaced the axle since then).

My usual method of car wash soap + sponge did not fair so well. So what I did is this... grabbed the big spray can of engine degreaser I had laying around, sprayed a crap load of the stuff on a dish washing sponge (the rough side) and went at it! I made to sure to use plenty of water to wash off the now dissolved grease.

Needless to say, the rim looks BRAND NEW inside... the degreaser said do not use on wheels, but hey, I only used it on the inside anyway wink.gif

Also waxed my rims... I just used Zymol and they are nice and smooooth.

PS: I also think that Dawn or WD40/PB Plaster would've worked. Anything that can dissolve grease.

GJ Serge!

I can reach all the way into my Pegs with them on my car (well, mostly... I do have some big old monkey paws), so fortunately this isn't a problem in my book tongue.gif It would be nice to do that though when I have the wheels off the car just to make sure they are totally clean!

the reason the degreaser states to not use on wheels is it acts as a corosive agent and can harm the paint on your wheels, i've had paint come off on older rims before using a degreaser, well a stronger degreaser, what i usually use to clean my rims though is a degreaser in a purple bottle. the name precedes me right now but i do know its the best i've ever used when it comes to cleaning rims smile.gif i'l have to find it out and post it on here..

definately a great product smile.gif

Diesel fuel works well. Degreaser on paint is not so bad if not left to sit. It is hell on the tires though. But with CV grease you dont have many options.

I scrubbed that stuff very carefully, but all those black patches are still there...gonna try diesel fuel...maybe engine degreaser will work, but very risky!

i recommend a 3M scouring pad to help with removing the huge brake patches.
