Do I have to remove the old wax on the car before I clay ?? or just wash it

It's best to remove the old wax first. Clay will remove some of the wax, but not all of it. Your goal is to get crap off the paint, not off the wax.

You *could* wash the car with Dawn to remove the old wax, but I would only do that no more than 2-3 times per year. But I disagree, a good claying will knock mos,t if not all, the wax off. If the wax has been on the car for any length of time like 4-6 weeks, it's pretty much gone anyway. Any wax that a clay bar doesn't remove will get removed by the next step if you plan on using a cleaner polish.
