Really strange that the motor will work in one way but not the other, so the motor can't be totally dead, right?
Someone mentioned about removing the motors and giving it a shot of WD40. Another mentioned about just disabling the locking mechanism altogether but that leaves the gas cap unprotected. With soaring gas prices, what a perfect time for the thing to fail. Anyway, what about a replacement gas cap with built-in key-lock? Is there one that's made for our cars? This should be cheaper than replacing the motor.

The motor is $105.00 and labor is a half an hour. so about $140.00, kinda spendy. I like the locking gas cap idea better

I do not know if that is normal or not, but your car should have a maual lever puller thing. I fixed mine, I unpluged it and pulled on the chaina couple of times and no it works like new.

Is the "maual lever puller thing" you mentioned the one that I have open the trunk side cover to do it? If yes, I do have it. I was talking about the lever that should be in the car, but I can't find it.

I am not too worried about gas stealing, it's just a pain to go and pull that cord everytime I want to fill up.

mine doesn't lock or unlock. i guess i don't really need to worry about it until someone starts stealing my $2.59-per-gallon premium.
