I just changed my oil at 8k.

i'd just be worried that the warranty went something like this:

if you engine is damaged under normal driving conditions before the 15k miles is up, we will refund you the full value of our oil. blink.gif

i was gonna change my oil at 3k, even with synthetic. i guess that isn't really needed.

From Mobil 1 Extended Performance Warranty:

"If there is equipment failure related to the Mobil brand lubricant you purchased, ExxonMobil will repair any equipment damage directly caused by a defect or malfunction of a Mobil lubricant, provided that the lubricant was selected and maintained in accordance with specifications of the original equipment manufacturer or the written instructions (which includes product packaging) of ExxonMobil. Synthetic oil is WORLDS better than dino oil, especially for turbo'd cars and/or cars that are driven "spiritedly". It's not just a matter of going longer b/t oil changes. It's a matter of better protection, less wear, less friction, higher efficiency. We run full synthetic in all of our cars and they all have over 100k miles. No leaks at all.

As far as changing intervals go, I change mine every 3500 miles using either Motul 300V 5w-40 or Voll-Synthese 5w-40.

My dad changes the oil in our 3 Honda's as well (one is my mom's, and two of my sister's have Honda's as well). They get Royal Purple 10w-40 every 4k miles.

His Nissan 300ZX Turbo was getting Mobil 1 10w-40 every 4k miles until the water pump went out and due to the non-functional temp guage, he didn't realize it overheated until the pistons started melting ph34r.gif .

... and just to be clear, this is the new Mobil 1 Extended Performance product, not the original Mobil 1 syn, which was not replaced by this new formulation. It's still on the market. I just changed to the new product today smile.gif

I switched my 1995 850 turbo to Mobil One at 120K miles. I immediately encountered leaks where there had been none before. I recently switched back to a high mileage oil and am seeing a significant reduction in leaks. I plan to stick with my current oil but change it more frequently than I did for the the Mobil One.

Synthetic lubricates much better when very cold (Toronto winters), much better when very hot (turbocharger bearings), has greater resistance to oxidation for longer oil life and less sludge/carbon buildup, and, if PAO based like Mobil 1, Castrol (German) 0W-30, or Amsoil, has higher film strength.

At 90,000 miles, I'd do an Auto-Rx cleaning with conventional oil, then use either conventional or synthetic as you choose.

If they ship this stuff from the US to Canada, I will have to pay $20 for a customs broker and another $20 for shipping, which I don't mind doing for big stuff but not when the product is only $25.

Is this stuff the same stuff you can buy Walmart to help you pass emissions testing?

xtc,

Shipping of auto-rx.com is free within the US. To Canada, there is a small charge. Also, request them to ship it via USPS/Canada Post as their brokerage fee is a flat C$5. Email Frank at auto-rx.com - they have many Canadian customers and so would probably know the best method of delivery to Canada.

I spoke with a Volvo Master Tech who recommended Synth Oil but advised it is always a good idea to swap filters at a 3-5K interval.

they make "high mileage" synthetic as well. the only real difference is that it is a different weight(as far as i know). the "new vehicle" formula i buy is 5-30w, whereas the "high mileage" formula is 10-30w. i might switch to the 10-30w if i see any leaks.

You can get 5qt bottle of mobil1 @ Wal-Mart for $19.82 or the new extended Mobil1 is $24. for 5qt bottle.
