for the past couple of weeks my 850 na has been driving like crap. every morning when i attempt to start the car it will fire up but then stall unless i hold the gas pedal down so that the RPMs go above 2000. during this time the car will shake and vibrate heavily.

once the car is warmed up it will idle at just over 1000 RPMs in park. however, if it put the car in drive or reverse the RPMs go below 1000 and the car shakes and vibrates (no stalling). This symptom is not going away. if i stop the car at a stop light and keep it in drive the car will shake heavily and if the air is on the RPMs go way below 1000 (around 500) and the car almost stalls.

when i accelerate the car under 3000 RPMs the car will putt, shake, and vibrate both inside the cabin, engine bay, and the exterior body. the car drives fine over 3000 RPMs.

my gas mileage used to average 25 or 26 on my trip computer. now its at 23. the tailpipe is very black and it used to be crome.

i thought it was bad gas but i've gone through over 2 tanks already. i put 7 bottles of dry gas in to see rid the tank of water.

i cleaned the throttle body as well and saw signs of no improvement.

i replaced the fuel filter last summer and the fuel pump last fall. i don't have a check engine light on.

this is for a 93 850. what is wrong with her?

Have you pulled any codes from the diag box next to the wiper resevoir?
If so what are they?

no i havent. i assumed the check engine light would come on. i will check for codes

Your problem sounds like what i had a month ago, although i didn't drive it when i was having that problem like yours. I too got abit of black stuff on my exhaust tip, but it seems to have gone now. The service centre cleaned out the throttle body and some other engine parts and then re-tuned the idle and stuff...now it works good...although when i start up the car the rev goes up to like 1400-1800rpm for like 1-2seconds then drops back to 900rpm. Which i posted on another thread and they said that was fine for that to happen.

any rotten egg smell? (clogged CAT)

...do some basic trouble shooting, check to see how strong your spark is, crawl under and tap the CAT w/ a mallet, check vac hoses, pull the idle air motor put 12v to it and see if its running propperly....

i would also suspect your MPG is not 23...track it manually via basic math (old school) and see what it comes out to

A1 Codes - solid red light - won't allow me to pull codes (bad ground?)

A6 Codes - 1,1,1

A3 Codes - Lots of them but they dont' relate to my problem.

please help. could a short with one of the A1 components be causing the car to run terribly?
