Hello,

I just ordered my thermostat kit for my 1999 s80,
I understand it is behind the timing cover, can anyone
give me some insight to how difficult it is to get to and
and tricks or tips to changing it. My car already had the
timing belt and serpentine belt replaced by the dealer,
I do not believe they changed the thermostat at the time.

thanks

Should be straightforward. Not familiar with the S80, but usually 2 bolts secure the t-stat housing to the block.

Follow the upper radator hose to the block, you found the t-stat housing.

That is the normal location, but on these inline 6 cyl. in the S80,
the housing at the end of the hose, is just a connection, no
thermostat there, the parts guy at Volvo said his picture showed
it is underneath the timing belt cover?

I found a picture in a Mitchells Collision Repair Book, it shows a thermostat
housing with a cover that is mounted to the front of the engine close to
the water pump, quite an elaborate set-up it would appear, I will probably
remove the timing cover this weekend to see if I can see it.

Any experience or more info would be appreciated, I will post anything I
find while working on it, thanks
