My CV Boots are leaking grease, and I wholehearedly intend to remove and replace the CV Boot instead of installing a new axle.

Two Questions:

The CV Boots which are leaking are the ones which are closer to the subframe. One is adjacent to the Front Engine Mount, while the other is adjacent to the tranny. Are these the 'inner' or 'outer' CV boots?

FCPGroton sells a kit for the CV boots. However, I would rather pick up a boot from a store locally. Based upon conjecture and some observation it seems as if the CV boots are very similar, no matter where they are purchased. Are there any differences in construction which I should be aware about if I were to buy from, say, NAPA Auto Parts? The parts from various suppliers seem astoundingly similar.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Sorry, I posted this in Performance Modifications. Can a moderator please move this thread to FWD/AWD Maintenance, where it belongs? Thanks!

if you do plan to go w/ a parts store brand .. PLEASE test them out as in take them out of the box and feel them up GOOD. as you can tell right away if its a high quality part or something that might tear uber easy

I believe these would be the inner boots. The outer boots would be the ones that cover the CV joint right behind the wheels.

I don't know about aftermarket ones but the dealer sells the kit that includes the inner and outer boots; 2 types of grease for inner and outer boot; clamps and 2 types of axle nuts.

If its the smaller of the two its the inner. I use aftermarket ones on my car all the time with 0 problems so far.
