-solved-How bad is the curb rash on these stock wheels?

Recommended Posts

To start off, I love the stock wheels that came with the C70 i'd much rather try and restore or repair the curb rash on the wheels than buy new wheels. I don't know enough about car cosmetics yet to know how bad these wheels are. I do have pics for you.

------------------------------------

I know about the oil drip. Saw it a week ago.

-------------------------------------------------------

The pic above is the worst wheel out of all of them. I just realized I can switch this worse wheel with maybe my spare wheel which is a brand new wheel.

-----------------------------

I'm sure you speeders have seen curb rash a lot. how bad is it?

Looks pretty fixable. On a “broad strokes” overview, use a metal filler (think JB Weld) to fill in the gaps left by curb rash, then sand it all smooth and repaint the wheels. That would be easier with the tires removed, but can be done with the tires still installed if you’re careful

Or, a professional wheel repair shop should have no problem repairing those if you’re not up to refinishing them yourself.

No, that's an oil drip. I noticed it a week ago and that's where the oil is leaking to.  When i bought the car 6 months ago the previous owner said there was a slow oil leak.  I never knew where it was coming from un till I saw the drip on the wheel.

That's the right hand passenger wheel well. There is dripping on the ground but not too much from the past 6 months. I have had 2 oil changes since then and an oil super flush.

I cleaned the wheels by hand with a washcloth and dawn dish soap and i would have seen/felt a crack.

Thanks for the tips again Andy.

Edit: Does my car still count as stock? I do have Volvo emblem valve stem caps.

you sure that's not axle grease?  See if the BOOT on the axle is torn.

yeah, point that out.  He will inspect the boot.

say it's torn, it is possible to just put a new boot on.  depending, its worth putting a new axle on( get rebuilt),  but the boot alone is replaceable.
