I have an S70 T5 that suffers from the drop in idle speeds at times. This causes the car to shake, through the steering column, and is somewhat noticable. Usually this happens when you're coming to a stop and the engine reaches idle speed.

So there was a thread about this, citing SB 28-0003. They say it costs an hour of labor plus a download fee, whatever. I figure fixing this is part of "stage 0." Unfortunately, after calling all 4 local Volvo dealers, I'm left with nothing. Autobahn Volvo can't find the update in their computers. Volvo of Richardson says that it's a recall, not a service bulletin, and that my car is not included in the recall. I said that I had the problem cited in that recall, and he said they cannot do the upgrade on a car not included in the recall.

Any ideas?

Nope, the car has no performance modifications. But since I can't get anyone to do this update, it's not a major concern. tongue.gif

I just found the service bulletin 28-0003, it's there and it is service campain 81 which I believe is free if you car is in the chassi range. But like mentioned if you have an upgraded computer, it will be reflash and not be an upgraded computer when you get it back.

I had all that information. I even read the SB word for word to them. One dealer simply couldn't find the update, and the other said it was a recall, and that I couldn't pay him to do it on my car.

Clean the throttle body. That is my suggestion.

I made a few more calls about this today.

Volvo of Dallas said nothing but "bring it, let us diagnose it."
Autobahn Volvo said that Service Campaign 81 involves a recall on a Volvo laptop. She was adamant that it had nothing to do with my car, and that she would even fax me the service campaign. I asked her about the number 28-0003, and she told me that it means nothing.
Point West Volvo said they had heard of the issue and could do the update, no problem.

My only problem is that Point West has always tried to screw me. I tried to buy my 960 from them, any the literally prepped a car that I told them I didn't want, brought it around, and handed me the keys. Tried to force me to buy it (it was the wrong color.) Then when I went to them for service, they twice broke my radiator. I try to avoid them.

Any advice, Bay13 Admin? You'd think that someone having 4 large Volvo dealers at their disposal wouldn't have a problem finding one to do this update.

Take it to the one that says they can do it. Try to forget about the past for a while until you get what you need.

The thing that worries me is that this upgrade isn't something I can see or really detect. They could just park the car out of sight for an hour, charge me $150, and send me on my way. If the problem occurs again, and I ask them about it, "Well, it must be some other problem let us diagnose it..."

I guess the real question is, should I be concerned about this problem? Is it anything more than an annoyance? Or can it have long term harmful effects on the car? I do plan to start chunking mods at it at some point.

Good Question.. i would like to know the answer to this as well. Especially since I dont want to have to send my ECU back to SpeedTuning again... (at least not yet)

Some people have it completely dispatch the car...while some are like me... where it once in a while..shudders/chokes a bit..and is back up. *shrugs*
