Hi Guys

I have an 850 T estate.
What a lovely car, I haven't had it for long, but something is up with the locks,
maybe someone can help shed some light?
Once in the car, turned on the ignition, car starts, all the doors lock, CLICK.
According to the manual it is a safety feature of Volvo that the doors cant lock
when in key position I or II.
If I open the door,. they all unlock, but then they sometimes decide to lock again.
YIKES, is my car Christine?
Any tips on what this is all about?
Ta...

That's odd. I've never seen an 850 that locked you in. What year is it?

Maybe that was not a US feature?

I know most of the problems I had with the locking system on my wagon were due to the tailgate lock. Ended up replacing the motor and voila, all better.

It's a '95 model...
When I bought it, it had a 'ferrari' keyless entry remote,
i'm wondering if it's something to do with that?

You probably have an aftermarket alarm on the fritz.

Sorry, tough to diagnose over the net.

acutally, i'm betting on the not a US feature thing. seems like a pretty good guess.

Check with them and see if that is a feature, cause it's on the USA models.

I can't see how being locked inside your car can be a feature.
Anyway, I appreciate your feedback, will find myself an alarm guy thingy.
Ciao

It's for security. The idea is that if you're just rolling down the street and come to a stop at a light, no one can pull you out (car jack) or jump in (hostage situation). A lot of aftermarket alarm systems have this feature and it really isn't a bad idea.

I think that unless you really want to know why it's doing it, that it's not something to worry about. The car just wants you to be safe. tongue.gif

I had to register my basement as an NFA item.

Not the car (Volvo) that wants you to be safe, the security system... wink.gif

Automatic locking of doors seems to be very common on newer cars made in North America. tongue.gif

OK, i can see the point of that!
It's just that you dont get much car-jacking in NZ,
so it never occured to me that it was a safety feature.
Thanks for your replies.
