Yesterday, I took my car to the volvo dealership in charleston, sc for the fuel recall and it was my first time using them for service. I had to go through the routine of questions and answering about my car. When he asked what year my car was...i said 1996. He took my vin number and put it in the system and it said it was a 1997. The title says 1996 and everything else say 1996....but since the car was made in the 7th month of 1996...volvo rounds up and considers it a 1997.

So my next question, do i order parts as a 1997 or a 96. Check your car and see when it was made to see if maybe your car is newer than you thought. Post your thoughts.

Interesting info!

There wasn't much difference between MY94-97 850's... 93's are NA and 4 bolt pattern lugs.. and 97 GLT's are LPT, whereas 94-96 GLT's are NA.

Yeah i was just joking about the "ordering parts thing, but next time you order, you might wonder what year will come out of your mouth.

My car is apparently a crossover between a '99 and a '00. It's been interesting getting the right parts sometime. Especially my upper engine mount. I have the part on the engine from the 00+ and the part on the firewall from the 99-. That was fun...

Many manufacturers started putting the port in well prior to '96. Some older ports however are not connected to the an underlying OBDII system. I have seen several late '95 models with active ports, but never anything older than that.

In US spec VINs isnt the 10th digit the year of the car?

10th character- Identifies the model year. For example: 1986(H), 1987(I), 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994®, 1995(S), 1996(T), 1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3), 2004(4), 2005(5)

My C70 was manufactured in 98 and the title shows it's a 99. The parts are all from 99 and I know because mine has all the 99 stuff like drive by wire, DIS ignition, 395cc injectors etc.
