Hello - I am new to the forum and desprately looking for advise and wisdom. I have a 2001 XC70 with 120K on the clock and need to get a few things done to the car. I have always worked on my own cars (and really enjoy it), but before I dice head first into this electronic and computer aged monster I need some help. I'm looking for guidance on the following things:

1) Transmission fluid - flush and fill...the book says it's not needed?!?! Is this really true? Has anybody performed this job and have you seen an improvement on shifting? Have you had any problems with leaking afterwards? And, is there a set-by-step procedure out there for this model car?

2) Center console/climate control lights - the lights behind the two indiviual knobs that select the climate temperature have gone out. How do you get the panel out to replace the bulbs?

3) Where is the AC recharge valve?

And, one other thing - I can't believe that Volvo didn't put in a directional function in the dash!!!

Thanks in advance for your help.
Tom

bout question number 2. Yes volvo says the tranny fluid is good for the life of the car. Most of us flush every 20K miles, but we also have performance upgrades that put more stress on the tranny. Check out this to flush the tranny :http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.aspx?CategoryID=1449&NodeID=4549&RootID=629

there is a right up by Bay13Admin somewhwere on the page on how to do it, its pretty simple. Good luck with your other questions.

That tranny takes synthetic fluid and it's expensive....as for the A/C schrader pass. side front...low side only..and the cluster lights I'm not even gonna try and explain

Go there for info on the transmission flush

The transmission oil is Mobil 3309
I bought two cases for $75.00
Flushing the tranny is easier than changing the oil.
Mine was BLACK @ 53,000
Bought the car @ 52,000
